Vor etwas mehr als einer Woche war ich an der Art Basel. Jedes Jahr ein Spektakel. Jedes Jahr Neues und überwältigendes. Wie jedes Jahr hatte ich nach bereits 4h eine Art-Überdosis. Es liegt nicht nur an der Menge der Werke sondern es hängt mit dem ganzen Drumherum zusammen. All diese Menschen. Und zwar genau DIESE Menschen. Es ist unmöglich durch die verwinkelten Gänge zu laufen ohne der zwei meter grossen Frau in High Hells und Minirock nachzusehen. Oder der älteren Dame mit den weissen kurzen Haaren und den vollgetexteten Kleidern.."Shit, das sind ja alles hansaufgenähte Buchstaben auf ihrer Maxihose und ihrem Poncho-Ding". Und dann kommen zu den visuellen Eindrücken auch die auditiven hinzu. Zum einen das Fachsimplen über ein A4 formatiges Gemälde in Rot. Nichts als rot. Finde ich interessant. Was man alles drin sehen kann..und das sollte jetzt keinesfalls sarkastisch klingen denn ich komme bereits zu den anderen: "Pfff..also das könnt ich auch.." oder der: "Gibt meiner 4-jährigen Nichte einen Pinsel in die Hand und du hast das hier in 10 Minuten"..blablabla. Ihr nervt!!! Was haben solche Leute überhaupt an einer Ausstellung zu suchen?! Wenn ihr und eure Nichten und Enkel und mit zugebundenen Augen und in Farbe wälzen und ich weiss nicht was alles so toll seid dann macht es doch! Und werdet reich! Bitteschön!

All diese Dinge, die ich soo gerne all diesen Art-Hatern an den Kopf werfen würde, muss ich runterschlucken. Es würde ja eh nichts bringen. Doch genau das..das ist wohl der anstrengendste Teil bei der Auseinandersetzung von Kunst.

Ebenfalls viel gehörter Satz von, ich wage sie als fantasielose, langweilige und bemittleidenswerte Personen zu beschreiben: "Man kann eh nichts neues mehr bringen. Es gibt alles schon". Falsch. Auch wenn eine Technik, ein Motiv oder Farbkombination bereits ausprobiert wurde, ist ein Werk eines anderen Künstler trotzdem immer noch ein Tick anders. Immer. Genau so ist es meiner Meinung nach auch bei Menno Aden. Der deutsche Fotokünstler hat sich auf Architekturfotografie spezialisiert. Und zwar auf eine Art und Weise die vielleicht sogar Art-Hater über ihr Sofa hängen würden. Was ich jedoch nicht hoffe, weil das viel zu schade wäre. Oben sieht man einen Teil seiner Fotoreihe: Room Portraits. Wer oder wessen Nichte kann das? Und wo habt ihr genau das schon einmal gehesen? Hmm? Fail!

andy gilmore

Andy Gilmore’s work is often characterized as kaleidoscopic and hypnotic, though it could just as well be described as visually acoustic, his often complex arrangements referencing the scales and melodies in music. Gilmore’s journey toward this masterful style followed a long and winding road. He characterizes his pursuit of education as a tangled web, noting the bookstores, bakeries, and theaters where he worked were of more importance than the schools he attended in pursuit of his BFA, which he received from SUNY Empire State College. Andy Gilmore’s extensive list of clients includes Wired Magazine, The New York Times, Fast Company, Wallpaper*, Warp Records, and yes, Ghostly International.

Where Children Sleep- stories of diverse children around the world, told through portraits and pictures of their bedrooms. When Fabrica asked me to come up with an idea for engaging with children's rights, I found myself thinking about my bedroom: how significant it was during my childhood, and how it reflected what I had and who I was. It occurred to me that a way to address some of the complex situations and social issues affecting children would be to look at the bedrooms of children in all kinds of different circumstances. From the start, I didn't want it just to be about 'needy children' in the developing world, but rather something more inclusive, about children from all types of situations. It seemed to make sense to photograph the children themselves, too, but separately from their bedrooms, using a neutral background.

the tour show

Canadian-born artist Ben Tour (b. 1977) channels a dark, often haunting sense of humanism in his work. His observations deftly inform his paintings, enabling him to capture the essence of a character, and then distort that view any way he desires. Frenetic lines, swaths of color, and intimate angles all convey a sense that Tour may not only be drawing inspiration from the lives of strangers he observes, but manifesting his own personal experiences as well. Ben Tour lives on the Sunshine Coast, British Columbia with his Wife and two children. Tour has exhibited in galleries from Los Angeles to Miami, Hamburg to New York. His work has been featured in publications including Juxtapoz and Playboy and he is a regular contributor to Color magazine. He has worked with clients such as BMW, Absolut, Nike and Burton Snowboards.

Die Bilder von John Keen strahlen eine gewisse Magie aus. Eine Kombination aus Grusel mit Niedlichkeitsfaktor. Mir kommt bei den Bildern irgendwie Sleepy Hollow, where the wild things are, the night before christmas..allgemein irgendwie Tim Burton.

Ich mag auf alle Fälle den Stil und würde ein Kinderbuch mit Illustrationen von John sofort kaufen.
